Volunteer to work with children in Thailand and give them hope to succeed in future. Surin is one of the poorest regions in Thailand and young children often do not get good quality education and support while growing up. Because of this, they often do not have any hope of coming out of the poverty their families are mired in. This project aims to change this. Through volunteers, the children will be exposed to skills, games and other activities they have missed out on. Our volunteers will teach and get involved in variety of activities to help the kids and turn them into confident individuals.
No specific skills or qualifications are required to volunteer in the project. You should however have passion to work for the children and be flexible and patient. Volunteers must also respect Thai custom and local people at all times.
Volunteers will work from Monday to Thursday and have 3 days off to explore other areas of Thailand. You will start your work from 9 am and finish at 3.30 pm. You will also have an hour off for lunch from 11.30 am. You will start your activities by looking back and revising previous day’s work. You will then teach English, play games and do many other activities. The children usually take a nap in the afternoon and volunteers can get involved in developmental projects.
Surin is known has the elephant province in Thailand. This is because of the large number of elephants that are domesticated and the elephant festival that takes place very year that draws large number of crowds. Surin is one of the poorest region in Thailand and overwhelmingly agrarian. There are many interesting things to see around Surin including visiting Cambodia as it’s a border town. Surin also has a sizeable expatriate community.
