The goal of this program is to help provide these people with access to the quality healthcare that they deserve. You can help provide people with the healthcare needed to have a full, healthy life. Professional volunteers can work in a variety of settings including local clinics, hospitals, HIV centers, and elderly and disability centers. Volunteering with the Medical program in Antigua, Guatemala is an excellent way to give back to a community while having the unique opportunity to become fully immersed in their culture.

We welcome medical students and health care professionals in this project. You must be able to provide proof of your professional qualification such as a medical student ID or healthcare background credentials and experience. You can let us know your background, skills and your specialty, and we will organize a suitable placement for you.
Volunteers also need to be at least 18 years old to join this program. You will also need to bring scrubs, a stethoscope and closed-toed shoes. You should also have a love for working with people, an open heart, be patient and flexible, as well as demonstrate independence and creativity.
Speaking Spanish will make your volunteer experience highly rewarding as many patients do not speak English, though it is not a mandatory requirement. If you cannot speak Spanish, we recommend enrolling in our Spanish Language Studies program, which can run simultaneous to your volunteer project.
Your specific role in the medical project will depend on your skills, education, qualifications and interests. Professional medical volunteers are needed in a variety of settings. Volunteers will assist doctors and other medical professionals with their tasks as well as help with general duties and patient care.
You will help diagnose and assist patients with minor treatments, administer first aid, and distribute medicines. You will take patient vitals and measurements, check on patients, care for them and maintain their records. You may also be involved with healthcare companies to promote health awareness in the local communities.

RCDP’s Antigua, Guatemala Volunteer Programs start every Monday throughout the year.
Every year hundreds of volunteers sign up for UK and UK based organizations and pay up to $2500 to volunteer for two weeks in Guatemala. Unfortunately, only a small portion of that money actually goes to the local projects and host families. The local projects (childcare centers, school, and local NGOs) in Guatemala are poor and need external support to run their programs. In our program, you will pay your fee directly to host families and projects upon your arrival in Guatemala. When you join our program, we make sure that all of your money goes to the projects and host families. Part of your fees also helps us cover our expenses. The program fee is divided into a registration fee $279 and weekly fee for room, food, coordination, and project donation.

Weekly fees are divided between accommodation, 2 local meals (breakfast & dinner) a day (50%), and project donation/support of local project staffers (50%). This allocation may differ depending upon the location, project type, etc. Our coordinator will explain the specifics for your program before you pay the fee. The Antigua, Guatemala volunteer program fees cover expenses from the first day of your program to the last day of your program. If you arrive before the first day of the program or you decide you stay beyond your program’s last day, you will be responsible for any additional expenses.
