Guatemala Eco Agriculture Volunteer Program

Ever thought about the impact of agriculture in Guatemala and how it affects the local population? With over one-third of the population engaged in farming, there's room for improvement in both their well-being and environmental conservation. Fortunately, some groups are adopting organic and sustainable methods, along with traditional techniques, to address these challenges.

In Guatemala, responsible farming is chosen to safeguard the environment and promote community health. However, these farms face a common challenge – they need more helping hands to run smoothly. As a RCDP Volunteer, actively participating in these diverse farming programs. Eco-agriculture and responsible farming depend on individuals like you working in the fields. Located just outside Antigua, you'll learn all about sustainable farming, from coffee to macadamia nuts. You'll be involved in everything, from picking and weeding to planting, processing, and packaging. It's a hands-on experience that truly makes a difference!

Skill/Qualification

Fluency in Spanish is not mandatory, but basic knowledge is beneficial. A positive and proactive attitude is crucial – be prepared to fully engage in your volunteer experience! Initiative, outgoing nature, and a willingness to contribute wherever needed are encouraged. Consistent attendance and adherence to the schedule are vital for a positive impact on both yourself and the project.

In Guatemala, you'll live with friendly host families who are used to having volunteers. They'll make sure you have a safe and comfortable place to stay in a nice neighborhood. You'll share a room with others of the same gender, and it'll be simple but clean and comfy. You'll have everything you need like showers and electricity. The project you're working on might be close, or you might need to take a short ride. Your host family will give you two local meals a day, breakfast, and dinner. If you have specific food likes or dislikes, they'll take care of that for you at no extra cost. Just let them know early so everything goes smoothly. Communication is key to having a great time with your host family.

The Fee and Dates

RCDP’s Antigua, Guatemala Volunteer Programs start every Monday throughout the year.

Every year hundreds of volunteers sign up for UK and UK based organizations and pay up to $2500 to volunteer for two weeks in Guatemala. Unfortunately, only a small portion of that money actually goes to the local projects and host families. The local projects (childcare centers, school, and local NGOs) in Guatemala are poor and need external support to run their programs. In our program, you will pay your fee directly to host families and projects upon your arrival in Guatemala. When you join our program, we make sure that all of your money goes to the projects and host families. Part of your fees also helps us cover our expenses. The program fee is divided into a registration fee $279 and weekly fee for room, food, coordination, and project donation.
