Are you a qualified dentist or a dental student? Do you like the idea of using your skills on a well structured, meaningful volunteer program which really helps people in need? Does the opportunity to gain international experience of dentistry appeal to you? If so then look no further, as we have the perfect opportunity for you to do all of these things at the same time on our dental volunteer program, Peru.

RCDP Volunteers has offered top class dental volunteer programs in the wonderful country of Peru for fifteen years. These opportunities are open to both current dental students and experienced dentists who want to combine travel and volunteer work. Dental assistant volunteer opportunities are also available.

Dental program volunteers in Peru work from dental clinics based in public health centers in Cuzco. The facilities available are fairly basic, but the staff offers various treatments, so there's plenty to observe and learn about.

Skill/Qualification

To be eligible for this program you must either hold a recognized qualification in dentistry or be a student in this field of healthcare; some dental hygiene volunteer opportunities are also on offer.

Spanish language skills are not essential but they do help.

Volunteer's Responsibilities

Every day is different on these exciting Peru dental volunteer programs, as you get to help local dentists with a variety of tasks. These may include showing patients how to take care of their teeth, and administering fluoride treatments. Each placement is arranged based on the skills, experience, background and interests of each individual Peru dental volunteer, and may differ depending on the dates you are free to travel.

Dental student volunteers will spend most of their time shadowing and observing qualified staff from all the dentistry departments. There will be plenty of opportunity to take notes and discuss procedures with supervising staff. Along with the educational aspects of the role, most of the clinic work involves routine treatment and repair work, such as filling cavities, removing teeth, fitting caps and so on.

Our local support

A qualified local dentist will act as your mentor and supervisor on this Peru dental volunteer program, while our locally based staff offers all the support you need with daily living and paperwork tasks.

Enthusiastic and high-achieving individuals get a lot out of our pre-dental and dental Peru volunteer abroad programs. A pro-active approach to the work involved is highly valued by the local staff, and they appreciate that some volunteers are able to take on extra responsibilities, such as running community workshops.

Dental volunteers on this program are able to experience authentic Peruvian culture by staying with a host family while working on their project. This is a unique, safe and comfortable way to understand more about how people live in Peru, as well as enjoy traditional food and family life. Of course you can also improve your Spanish speaking skills both with your hosts, and with others on the project.

During your free time there are lots of things to do, and places to explore in Cuzco and the surrounding areas. Volunteers really enjoy discovering the wonders of Peru together.
