Though in urban areas the healthcare has seen vast improvements recently, people in rural areas still succumb to treatable diseases. Moreover, qualified doctors and nurses don't like to visit rural areas and treat patients from disadvantaged background. Join RCDP's health project in Kenya and go where the poor and the sick are and help them have a healthier life. You will work with local medical professionals to learn about the medical practice in Kenya and help with the treatment.
The aim of the project is to increase access to basic healthcare, decrease the prevalence of endemic disease and improve overall health by providing public health projects and promoting health education. This is a wonderful opportunity for volunteers to help the poor people of Kenya.
Skill/Qualification
The health project in Kenya hires only volunteers who have health care certification, such as student ID of a medical student, EMT or paramedic certification, or nursing or physician's credentials. If you are on the process of acquiring the certification, you will also be considered provided you furnish document to support your claim.
Volunteer's Responsibilities
Your actual responsibility during the healthcare project in Kenya will depend on your skill and experience. Among general things, you might do are assist in consulting room, dispensary and help with physiotherapy, treatment of minor injuries, maternal help and childcare, assisting midwives on visits, and checking and recording patient's information.
Your work will might include:
- Measuring BP, temperature, height, weight
- Assisting doctors and medical staffs with health center tasks
- Helping in health camps (if any)
- Dispensing medications
- Immunizations
- Treating minor injuries or wounds
- OPD or out-patient services
- Providing tips to patients on health, nutrition and sanitation
- Counseling patients
- Assisting hospital’s administration
Project Location:
The healthcare project in Kenya is located in Nairobi. It is the capital and the largest city in Kenya. It is a modern city and a region business hub in east Africa. Nairobi is also located close to national parks and you can go for many safari expeditions while in Nairobi. The city itself is surrounded by plains, cliffs and forest that make up the city’s Nairobi National Park. Nairobi also enjoys lively nightlife, variety of shops, restaurants and bustling market.
