Abandoned and at-risk children are plentiful in the streets of Quito. The government lacks the resource to properly help these children of alleviate the issue. The majority of these children are without family or home. RCDP is working with local communities and organizations to help these children get off the streets and on to a better path.
Your role as a volunteer will be to work with RCDP and these partner organizations to provide support and hope for these children living in the streets. You will be sharing skills, talents, and knowledge with the youth. You will be offering your kindness and care. You might be teaching them about health, or helping them with homework. Your genuine support in this project has the unique ability to help these children and get them back on their feet.
Volunteer require no special qualifications or skills to volunteer in street children project. We will however prefer volunteers who can speak a little bit of Spanish as they will be able to communicate better with the children and the staff at the project.
You should have passion and enthusiasm to help impoverished and orphaned children. We also expect volunteers to be flexible and adaptive as working condition and the mentality of the people will be very different from what you're used to back home.
Volunteers are needed to assist already-existing institutions in their effort to provide hope and improvements in the living conditions of the street children. Depending on personal skills and interests, volunteers can teach English, music, mathematics, computer skills, assist in cooking and serve meals to the children, educate them on issues of personal hygiene/sanitation, ensure they complete their homework and simply spending quality time with the children. Furthermore, volunteers can assist in reintegrating these children into society as well.
This project is located in Quito, Ecuador's capital city. Quito is the former home of the Inca Empire and full of rich history that dates back to pre-Columbus times. Volunteers will find themselves in a city that offers great images of the past. Quito is full of both historic intrigue and modern day pleasures.
In general, Quito and the entire nation of Ecuador have many destinations for the volunteer to experience. The biodiversity of Ecuador will offer you a plentitude of natural wonders to seek out. Volunteers can take a trip to the Galapagos Islands to see the marine iguanas or visit Isla de La Plata that has reached global popularity for whale watching. There are numerous beaches where you can get some sun or go snorkeling. There is also the nearby Amazon Rainforest if you feel like having a tropical adventure. Volunteers are sure to find themselves with many options for things to do during their free time.
