Volunteer to teach English to young Chinese student and brighten their future while also experience vibrant Chinese culture.
Qingdao, where the project is located, is one of the fastest growing cities in China. City graduates are hired for jobs outsourced from the US or created through tourism and other industries. But without good English, these jobs will remain elusive for fresh graduates. Even to secure seats in good universities and do other things, English has become very important to learn in China. Yet, many schools and colleges don't have experienced English teachers as there simply aren't enough teachers around. Our volunteers will teach in these schools and help young children get to grasp with English language.
Enroll in the project and be part of the school in their effort to improve young children. You'll find the experience fun and fulfilling and the children very enthusiastic to learn from an international volunteer.
Your Responsibility as a Volunteer:
The schools in Qingdao work under a university are well organized and have good facilities. A single classroom has about 50 students. Volunteers will teach according to official syllabus but can also teach on your interactive ways. You're expected to teach for 4-6 hours a day from Monday to Friday. Your responsibilities can include:
- Teaching English
- Holding debates and discussions to encourage students to participate and increasing their confidence to speak in English
- Assisting with creative and extracurricular activities (i.e. games, drawing, singing, dancing, etc.)
- Helping the students with homework and supporting their academic progress
- Assisting in other school-related activities or programs
- Assisting with local curriculum development
Skills Required:
Volunteers must be fluent English speakers to enroll in the project. We also welcome non-native English speakers as long as they have good knowledge of English. Volunteers are also expected by be open minded, confident and resourceful.
Project Locations:
The teaching English in China project is located in the city of Qingdao. Qingdao is a beautiful seaside city with clear air and enchanting sea view. This city borders the Yellow Sea on two sides and has the largest bathing beach in Asia. It is located in the southeast part of Shandong Province. Qingdao was voted one of the most livable cities in China because of clean and green space. From Qingdao, it is very easy to reach other major cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Dalian.
