volunteer in CambodiaAre you interested in travelling in Asia and helping others while there? Is the idea of making a difference to the future of people who are often overlooked important to you?

RCDP’s range of exciting Cambodia volunteer opportunities could be just what you are looking for. Despite its tragic fairly recent history of war, genocide and oppression the people of Cambodia are determined to flourish, and their upbeat, friendly attitude to life leaves no doubt that this is possible. Unfortunately the process of modernization is slow, and some groups of people are being left behind.

The busy, bustling capital may sort increasing numbers of cars and other signs of economic growth, while the treasures of Angkor Wat attract millions of foreign tourists. However, there are still children forced to beg on the streets to survive, and rural villagers who cannot afford to care for their children or get even the most basic medical treatment.

There are lots of interesting and meaningful volunteer opportunities in Cambodia available to people like you, who want to see more of the world, and also help make a difference to the lives and future of these lovely and very deserving people.

You can enroll right now, or contact us to learn more about what we do, and the exciting opportunities we offer in the magnificent country of Cambodia.

The volunteer experience was very eye-opening and I felt very much needed at the site. I would greatly recommend it.

What volunteer opportunities are available in Cambodia

We offer a variety of volunteer programs in Cambodia, providing opportunities for you to work with children, in the health sector, in conservation and in the education field, to name just a few. One thing all projects have in common is their focus on supporting local charities and non-profits who work towards creating independence for those who benefit, rather than simply helping out in a stopgap way.

Work In Orphanage In Cambodia

volunteers in orphanage in cambodia Across Cambodia orphanages house large numbers of children who often do have at least one living parent, if not two. Sadly, regardless of how much they care about their offspring these unfortunate families are often simply unable to feed them.

Poverty in Cambodia is still a massive problem, and when young people are sent to an orphanage it is done for the very best of reasons.

RCDP’s volunteer Cambodia orphanage program supports the work of several orphanages to help the over worked staff give these disadvantaged kids the best possible start in life.

By choosing to join an orphanage volunteer Cambodia project you help secure a more hopeful future for the children involved. As well as tutoring them in English - a pretty much essential skill in a county which attracts so many tourists and opportunities to work – your love, care and attention will help them thrive emotionally too.

This may be the most rewarding and worthwhile volunteer abroad project ever for those who strongly believe all children deserve a brighter future and the chance to make that happen. If this is you why not sign up for this program today, or ask us for more information.

Skills/Qualifications Needed: To volunteer in a Cambodia orphanage you need only be a truly caring, understanding, friendly, reliable and compassionate person who enjoys spending time with young people, and has excellent English speaking skills of course.

Volunteer Responsibilities: The main part of your work will involve preparing activities and classes which will help young people learn English properly, and encourage them to speak and practice as much as possible. You will also send some time on regular play and creative activities such as singing, drawing and dancing, depending on your personal interests and abilities.

Teaching English in Cambodia

volunteers in cambodia teaching In Cambodia being able to speak English well is pretty essential to secure work in the fast growing hospitality and tourism industry. Unfortunately there aren’t many affordable ways to do this, as language tuition is considered a luxury in government schools, and private schools, personal tutors or study rooms are too expensive for many people to pay for.

RCDP are helping to change this by working with local education and childcare providers, and placing volunteers keen on teaching English in Cambodia with them.

You could find yourself in a state school, orphanage, university or adult education setting, but regardless of age your students will be extremely polite, keen and studious. They really appreciate this rare opportunity to improve their language skills, and ultimately to get a job which will support them and their families.

Skills/Qualifications Needed: Our English teaching Cambodia volunteer project is open to everyone, though if you have a teaching background or experience that would be a definite plus. It’s more important though that volunteers really care about children, and especially about how important it is that they all have the chance of a good education.

Native and completely fluent non-native English speakers are eligible to apply for this program.

Volunteer Responsibilities: The main part of your work when volunteer teaching in Cambodia involves preparing and teaching English classes in schools, although sometimes there are opportunities to help with other classes, and activities, If there is a special field trip planned you may be asked to go along and help, and at times students may request a little help with their homework.

Work in a Medical/Healthcare Project

volunteers in cambodia medicalIt’s an unfair truth that many poor Cambodians miss out on even the most basic medical care and treatment. Add to that situation the fact that many never learn a few basic things which would help keep them healthier in general, and avoid many common diseases.

RCDP have stepped in to support local groups which are striving to fill these gaps, with Cambodia medical volunteer programs designed to meet the exact needs of each small community they serve.

We welcome anyone keen to volunteer in Cambodia medical settings; whether you are trained in a relevant profession, or simply have the desire to help the sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged.

Volunteers interested in a medical career can get solid practical experience, while everyone on this program can enjoy post-program travel in this charming county knowing they have helped improve the lives of many.

Skills/Qualifications Needed: Volunteers on Cambodia medical programs offered through RCDP do not need any special background, experience or qualifications in this field, although of course healthcare workers or students of nursing, medicine and so on are very welcome.

Our projects are able to find a suitable role for everyone who wants to join, and age is not a problem either. So long as you are patient, kind, considerate, fit and able to deal with people who are unwell you will do fine.

Volunteer Responsibilities: The duties assigned to each volunteer depend mainly on their background and experience. Those completely new to this area will do more basic tasks and observe others doing specialized work, although staff will offer as much support and training as they can when it comes to practical tasks.

Considering this, typical workloads for Cambodia health care volunteers may involve: carrying out basic procedures such as dressing wounds and taking blood pressure readings, giving out medicines, helping physiotherapists deliver treatment, and doing general admin tasks.

The Fee and Dates

RCDP Cambodia Program starts every 1st and 3rd Mondays of each month.

Every year hundreds of volunteers arrive in Cambodia to volunteer from UK and USA based organizations and end up paying up to $2500 to volunteer for 2 weeks. Unfortunately, only a small portion of that money actually goes to host projects and host families. The local host projects (orphanages, school, and local NGOs) in Cambodia are poor and need external support to run their programs. In our program, you will pay your fee directly to host families and projects upon arrival in Cambodia. When you join our Cambodia volunteer program, we will make sure that all of your money goes to the projects and host families. Part of your fees also helps us cover our expenses. The program fee is divided as registration fee ($269) and weekly fee ( for room, food, coordination, and project donation).

Click to find the allocation of $269

In Cambodia, weekly fee is divided between room/3 local foods a day (50%) and project donation/support of local project staffs (50%). This allocation may be different depending on locations, project types etc. However, our coordinator will explain these issues before you pay the fee. Please find below the breakdown of cost in a weekly basis.

Arrangements for Room/Food/Supervision

Our Cambodia volunteer programs all provide safe, pleasant and clean accommodation, three meals a day featuring ingredients popular in traditional foods, and comprehensive support throughout.

Volunteers based in the capital, Phnom Penh, stay in our hostel which is centrally located and offers a TV and Internet access to residents. Elsewhere you stay with carefully screened host families who will welcome you warmly, and give you a great insight into everyday Cambodian life. You may well have a private bedroom, or be asked to share with another volunteer. Meals are taken with the host family, like any regular household.

Throughout your time on a Cambodia volunteer program a dedicated member of staff based locally will be there for you, checking in through visits where possible, and by email or phone too. They will also be happy to recommend places to eat or visit locally, and help with any queries you may have about the language and culture of Cambodia.
