Teaching In Mexico

volunteers in mexico teachingEnglish language classes are supposed to feature on both primary and secondary school timetables in Mexico, but many schools simply can’t afford to employ enough teachers to do more than cover more than the absolute basics.

They need people like you to volunteer to teach English in Mexico, as without a decent English level these disadvantaged young people will find it really difficult to function at the higher education level.

Students in poor areas are the worst affected, but they work hard and love learning from foreign volunteers.

Skills/Qualifications Needed: Volunteer teaching programs in Mexico are an ideal way to gain some hands on experience of the profession and help improve the lives of others, while exploring and enjoying a wonderful country. You don’t need to have any special qualifications or experience, although being able to speak some Spanish will add an extra element to your time on the project.

Volunteer Activities: When you choose to volunteer to teach English in Mexico your role is that of assistant to an established classroom teacher. You could be placed in a primary school, or in a school with older students studying tourism, and your schedule will depend on which project you join. Your main tasks will involve planning and helping to teach classes covering both grammar points and conversational English.

(Mexican schools close for holidays at Easter for around two weeks, for six weeks in the summer, and at Christmas for 2-3 weeks. Volunteers keen to join this program during the summer can be matched with a special holiday study program.)

Special Education in Mexico

Special Education in Mexico Special education volunteer teaching programs supported by RCDP provide a life changing opportunity for you to combine an amazing travel experience with a worthwhile volunteer adventure.

The disabled children you will help and support will really appreciate your care and effort, as will their parents, families, and the community you work in. Based in the small Mexican town of Barra de Navidad, you will be based in the only specialist education facility in the region.

Consequently lots of students want to attend, and many travel a long distance to do so. The classes are always over-full, bit resources are tight, so volunteers are always needed to help support local staff.

Volunteer Activities: Mexico volunteer special education teachers work as assistants to local teachers and visiting therapists in classrooms with children aged from nursery age up.

The main task is to support children in a personal, one to one relationship, which really helps them participate fully in classes. Other duties may be added, depending on the school and time of year; and there may be opportunities to help out with the specialized services like speech therapy which are offered to learners.

Skills/Qualifications: Staff on this special education volunteer abroad program prefer that applicants are able to communicate on at least a basic level of Spanish with staff to ensure things run as smoothly as possible.

There are no other essential requirements, so this is an excellent way for you to deliver crucial practical help to children with special needs if they touch your heart but you have no previous experience in the field.

The students who attend this school have a wide variety of disabilities, including cerebral palsy, autism, and deafness – so volunteers need to be flexible and able to work with children who have a range of different needs and ability levels.

Sea Turtle Conservation Project

volunteers in mexico turtle The future of sea turtles is in doubt, so the race to save them for future generations to enjoy is very real.

If you feel driven to help in this serious battle and would like to see more of Mexico at the same time, then please keep reading. For over twenty years dedicated locals have been working hard to secure a future for the endangered species of turtle which depend on a safe place to hatch their eggs, but are constantly at risk from poachers, careless fishermen and water pollution.

They really value the hard work and help sea turtle conservation volunteers in Mexico contribute, so please think about joining this program and helping to save these turtles from becoming extinct.

Volunteer Activities: Be prepared for a physically demanding but extremely rewarding experience. Eco volunteer opportunities in Mexico with turtles may include tasks such as joining night patrols to monitor the beaches for poachers and exposed nests of eggs, recording data, and helping to clean the hatcheries.

Skills/Qualifications: If you have a serious interest in animal conservation, the environment, or biological science you are definitely eligible to join this program. Any training needed will be provided once you are on site, and although some Spanish skills would help you to communicate with local helpers it is not essential.
